3Com® NBX® V3000

IP Telephony Solution

3Com® NBX® IP Telephony Solutions deliver powerful voice communications targeting single organizations with 2 to 400 users and multisite organizations with up to 10 locations. NBX Release 4.4 is the fourteenth NBX system software release by 3Com, who was first to market with an IP-PBX in 1998.

The key feature in NBX Release 4.4 is the new NBX V3000 IP Telephony Solution, which is a cost-effective, all-in-one box designed to target small and medium businesses from 2 to 100 stations. Small-to-Medium (SMB) enterprises can now more cost effectively leverage a converged network to provide their staff with better communication tools, increasing productivity and improving customer service.

NBX Release 4.4 expands support in several key areas:

Provides software support for the new NBX V3000 IP Telephony Solution, a cost-effective, all-in-one IP telephone system that includes call processing, voice mail, four analog FXO ports and one analog FXS port.

Supports zone paging that allows up to nine separate paging zones.

Supports personal operator that allows users to create personalized call coverage.

NOTICE: NBX Release 4.4 is supported on NBX V3000 platform only (not supported on NBX 100 or SS3 NBX V5000).

New R4.4 Hardware Device Support. The 3Com NBX V3000 IP Telephony Solution raises the bar for ease of installation and administration by combining all of the fundamental telephone features required by small customers in one cost-effective, compact platform.

By including four analog FXO ports, one analog FXS port, four ports/ 400 hours of NBX Voice Mail, 15 business phone licenses, and a 250-device call processor all in one platform, small businesses can have their IP phone system up and running in less than 30 minutes*. Although easy-to-use, the NBX V3000 is also extremely powerful, as the platform is scalable to 1500 devices and can utilize additional FXS and FXO gateways via the NBX Gateway Chassis, thus when your business grows, you don't outgrow your phone system.

Ideal for small to mid-size businesses and branch offices with up to 1500 devices per location, the NBX V3000 features fourth-generation 3Com NBX (R4.4) system software that simplifies third-party applications integration, enables seamless multi-site intra-company dialing and toll-bypass applications, and supports VPIM voice message exchange between sites. The NBX V3000 solution brings you cost-effective access to enterprise-caliber communications, easy-to-use features, intuitive Web browser–based administration, and an open architecture for straightforward applications integration.

NBX R4.4 Software Enhancements

3Com NBX R4.4 System Software provides software support for the new NBX V3000 Networked Telephony Solution as well as delivers two important new features:

  • Zone Paging. Zone paging allows the customer to customize up to nine paging groups that allow select users on the NBX system to be paged.

Prior to R4.4 , users could only page all devices at once, but now users can create subsets of devices to page select members of a group. The NBX administrator can define up to nine page zones, disable paging on individual phones, allow only zone members to page their zone, and allow only zone members to view their zone's membership.

Note – A separate license is NOT required for zone paging feature.

NBX R4.4 and Zone Paging is not supported on NBX 100 or SS3 NBX platforms. Zone Paging will be available on NBX 100 and SS3 NBX in the upcoming NBX Release 5.0 system software.
  • Personal Operator. The Personal Operator feature allows users to choose a phone number to be their call coverage rather than using the default system operator.

Prior to R4.4, callers who were transferred to voice mail were only given the option to dial 0 to be transferred to the system-wide operator. With R4.4 system software on the NBX V3000 platform, users can define a personal operator number in addition to the system-wide operator. This allows callers an additional option to reach a live contact in the event they are transferred to voice mail.

Users can easily change their personal operator number via the intuitive NetSet Web-based user portal. Users can define the number as an internal extension or external phone number (e.g. cell phone), in order to customize their call coverage for what suits their needs.
  • Important User Note. A user employing personal operator must indicate on their personal voice mail greeting that an operator is available by pressing the appropriate access digit during the voice mail greeting. Users can define zero or nine as their personal operator access number.

The NBX administrator can disable personal operator for select users.

A separate license is NOT required for personal operator feature. NBX R4.4 and Personal Operator is not supported on NBX 100 or SS3 NBX platforms. Personal Operator will be available on NBX 100 and SS3 NBX in the upcoming NBX Release 5.0 system software.
