The RAT'S NEST Under The Table

When the conference room first opened it was shiny, new and very impressive. A lot of money was spent building and furnishing the conference room and the table was very impressive. The goal was to impress the prospects, the customers and top management.

Then, someone wanted to plug their notebook computer into the wall. And the questions started to pop up:

  • Where was the electrical outlet?
  • Where was the network wall outlet?
  • Where did the projector sit on the conference table?
  • How long was the VGA cable to the projector?

Soon the expensive conference room had a ‘rat’s nest’ of cables underneath the impressive conference table. You’ve seen plenty of ‘rat’s nests’: the power cables, the network cables, the extended phone jacks for the conference phone -- all balled up under the conference table. And everyone pretended that the conference room still looked impressive.

Can the conference room be functional AND impressive?

Is there a way to accommodate all the A/V and communication cables without digging up the floor?

Is there an easy way to clean up the ‘rat’s nest’ and make the conference room look impressive again?

The Extron AVTrac could be the affordable solution to this very common issue.

The Extron AVTrac is an innovated floor-mounted cable raceway system that can be installed over or under the carpet. The AVTrac can put all of the right connectors where they are needed and put the cables out of sight – including electrical outlets. The AVTrac can clean up the ‘rat’s nest’ without the expense of coring or trenching a concrete floor.

The low-profile cable raceway system incorporates two eight-inch side ramps so it complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The AVTrac can be used in any environment where A/V devices require connectivity but are not near traditional cable runs.

The real flexibility comes from the Extron modular Architectural Adapter Plate (AAP) enclosure at the end of the AVTrac. The modular AAP enclosure supports all of the Extron AAPs, with hundreds of models available to support audio, video, phone, power and data connectors.

The basic AVTrac is an eight foot raceway and can ship with a 24 foot flexible conduit that is pre-wired to the power module. There is also an eight foot extension raceway.

The AVTrac can be used to enhance a conference room, rather than detract from it. The top cap of the raceway is a slot for a carpet insert. A commercial grade carpet (between ¼ inch and 5/16 inch thick) can be secured to the top cap, making the AVTrac blend into the floor. If carpet strips are not available, the AVTrac can ship with a black Roppe rubber strip, providing a durable surface in place of the carpet inlay.

The Extron AVTrac is a very affordable, alternative to concrete coring or trenching. The professional installation is easy and normally can be completed in a day. When combined with a ceiling-mounted projector, the conference room can return to it’s intended impressive appearance.
