HP (formerly 3Com) VCX Analog and Digital Media Gateways

As IP communications begin to dominate enterprise network architectures, organizations require components that interwork with legacy equipment and applications, including the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). With the HP Networking (formerly 3Com) Convergence Applications Suite, enterprises can deploy digital or analog gateways in specific contexts to mediate control signaling, handle calls, and facilitate access to the IP trunking network service. Gateway operations and service is controlled by the HP Networking (formerly 3Com) VCX IP Telephony module using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

HP Networking (formerly 3Com) VCX Digital Gateways are designed for networking PBXs, or providing aggregated connectivity to the PSTN.

HP Networking (formerly 3Com) VCX Analog Gateways are designed for supporting devices such as 2500-sets and fax machines.

These gateways help enterprises easily take advantage of converged networking benefits that include:

Lower cost

  • Digital gateways scalability from single T1/E1 to two, four, and 16 spans
  • Support for Primary Rate Interface (PRI) or Channel Associated Signaling (CAS)
  • Network services able to support hundreds or thousands of gateways
  • Integration of multi-vendor PBX environments at one or more sites to deliver common applications
  • Support for G.729, G.711, and ADPCM compression

Increased user productivity

  • Provision for a smooth migration from PSTN networks

Strengthened customer interactions

  • Compression that assures low bandwidth and quality audio to enhance how an organization is perceived by its customers
